AALI Sets New Fundraising Plan In Motion
By Norma Paige

High-speed and broadband internet service, satellite TV programming, cellular phones, local home phone service, long-distance services, and even medical savings discount cards will be offered by the African-American Leadership Institute (AALI) as part of its new fundraising plan. The success rate for obtaining grants has Colorado organizations rated fourth from the bottom for receiving funds through normal channels. As one of the more than 19,000 non-profit organizations in Colorado, AALI has found a more creative way to raise funds.

The new fundraising program is called Linx2Funds, sponsored by 5Linx Enterprises Inc., a telecommunications marketing company. With this program supporters are not asked for additional funds, but to consider switching their existing telecommunications services instead. When monthly fees are paid from supporters who use the services, a percentage goes to AALI.

Carriers are recognized name companies including T-Mobile, Cingular, Nextel, Sprint, DirecTV, Dish Network, and high speed Internet providers such as Comcast, EarthLink, Qwest, SBC, Yahoo, and Adelphia.

Most traditional fundraising programs are one-time monetary contributions, which are generally conducted annually. The unique Linx2Funds program allows the participating organization to receive contributions long after the initial fundraiser is over, through continuous residual income streams.

Linda Williams, AALI President, said, "This program is on the leading edge and something that the Institute can use to maintain and enhance existing programs. We are continually seeking innovative ideas to fund our programs such as the Adult Leadership program, Sistah Pride, Expanding The Visions and the WOW summer camps."
