Opportunities Abound At The 3rd Annual Mountain Region Black Economic Summit And Expo June 7 and 8

The Mountain Region Black Economic Summit will serve-up a variety of useful financial seminars and opportunity sessions for professionals and business owners of all persuasions. In addition to networking events and a business and career expo, this event offers day-long activities for area youth, including a talk-back session with Judge Glenda Hatchett, host of the nationally syndicated Judge Hatchett Show, on the topic of “The Image of Women in Hip-Hop.”

Judge Glenda HatchettThe Career Fair and Business Expo portion of the summit is free and open to the public on June 7. The expo will feature career development workshops, recruiters and vendors from across the state. The International Franchise Association will present a minority franchising workshop.

On June 8th, former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb will provide the keynote address at the summit's opening session, which will include a panel discussion with local community and government leaders about economic disparities in education, health, and home and business ownership. The panel will also discuss the obstacles and strategies to economic prosperity in the African-American community.

Four community "She-roes" will be honored during the Women In Leadership Luncheon and Award Ceremony. These awards honor women who advance positive awareness of women’s experiences through economics, discipline and compassion. Mr. Jeffrey Nickelson, Founder and Creative Director of the Shadow Theatre Company will emcee the luncheon. This year’s award winners are: for civic/community work, the honorable Elbra Wedgeworth, former Denver City Councilwoman, District 8; for faith-based work, Regina Groff, Pastor, Campbell AME Church; for work in business, Patricia Barela Rivera, Colorado District Director, SBA; and for corporate work, Chelyse Burrows, VP Programming, Starz Entertainment.

Ed GordonEd Gordon, former NPR and 60 Minutes contributor, and current host of Black Enterprise's television show, Our World, will speak at the event's closing session and facilitate a panel discussion with local African-American community leaders about our economic empowerment, collaboration and the roles of individuals, business, churches and civic leaders.

Workshops are held throughout the day on June 8. Topics include asset protection, women of color in corporate America, accessing capital for small businesses, franchising, and an in-depth discussion with some of Denver's most successful entrepreneurs.

Business owners will have the distinct opportunity to discover the numerous opportunities all in one place. MRBES will host opportunity sessions for Aurora, Denver, and the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Registration is $99 per person for full conference access, including all seminars, opening general session with continental breakfast, luncheon with Judge Hatchett, closing general session with Ed Gordon and expo access.
