February Celebrations Honor The Little Rock Nine

During February, the Iliff School of Theology is hosting Celebration of Courage, a month-long series of events in honor of the 50th anniversary of the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. by the nine courageous men and women known as the Little Rock Nine.
The nine high school students, who were thrown into the media spotlight in 1957 because of the controversy surrounding integration in public schools, will be attending some of the Denver events. One of the Little Rock Nine is Denver resident Carlotta LaNier.
“We are delighted to host the nine individuals who helped make it possible for every child in America to enjoy the right to a public education,” said David Trickett, president of the Iliff School of Theology. “Denver is truly fortunate to have this opportunity to host these pioneers, to hear the stories of their journey and to discuss our nation’s continuing journey together.”
The February tribute will feature a luncheon, an exhibit from the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site on the Little Rock Nine, an interfaith gathering, a film festival, and an opportunity to ask questions of the nine about their experiences.
