Happy Black History Month!

By Dante J. James

Managing Editor

In celebration of our 20th year of spreading the news about people of color, this month we are recognizing the achievements of 20 African Americans Who Make a Difference. We acknowledge and celebrate the work of these special people in the community who choose to shine their light for the benefit of others. Our cover story on Civil Technology and owners, Carl Bourgeois and Sheila King, is an example of the sharing, caring and giving done for no other reason than they believe in giving to the community.

You will also find stories on the trend of some Black women who have chosen to return to wearing their hair in its natural state, an interesting and personal story of what it’s like to learn that family members are passing for white – in this day and age, a story on the man who is credited with making the first clock and a local businessman who is spreading the word about this inventor.

Finally, brush up on your knowledge of the song we call the Black National Anthem. Get the background on its beginning, as well as its evolution.  Black History Month is a symbol of the contributions of African Americans to this country.  It is a symbol that should ignite the spark for continued appreciation throughout the year.  Enjoy the many articles with tidbits of Black history, information and events, and let this edition be the start of your Black History Year.

Peace and Blessings
Dante
