CBCC Announces Leadership Program Praticipants
Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) President & CEO Wellington Webb announced the completion of the selection process for the inaugural class of Chamber Connect, offering an aggressive and concentrated 10-month program of executive training and networking opportunities for business, community and entrepreneurial leaders in Colorado. Mayor Appoints O’Malley As Clerk And Recorder
Mayor John Hickenlooper announced his appointment of Stephanie Y. O’Malley to the position of Denver’s Clerk and Recorder. O’Malley, who has served as the Director of the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses for more than three years, replaces Wayne Vaden and will serve as one of three Denver Election Commissioners while overseeing the functions of Public Trustee, City Clerk, and Ex-Officio Clerk of the City and County of Denver. An experienced Denver attorney, O’Malley was appointed as Director of Excise and Licenses in October 2003, bringing to the City 13 years of legal experience in both the public and private sectors. The Clerk and Recorder records, preserves, and makes available to the public certain vital documents related to real estate transactions, marriages, City Council proceedings, and other records. The Department of the Clerk and Recorder has daily interaction with both individual residents and private-sector businesses. O’Malley received her law degree from the University of Denver and her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University.

Ritter Fills Out Cabinet Posts
Governor-elect Bill Ritter named Broomfield Health and Human Services Director Karen Legault Beye and first Judicial District Judge Peter Weir to Cabinet posts. Beye will serve as executive director of the Department of Human Services and Weir as executive director of the Department of Public Safety. Ritter named three additional executive directors to head the departments of Personnel and Administration, Health Care Policy and Financing, and Natural Resources. Former Denver Fire Chief Rich Gonzales was selected to lead Personnel and Administration; health-care policy professional Joan Henneberry will oversee HCPF, and natural resources expert Harris Sherman will manage DNR.

DMCVB Elects Heise As New Chair
Rus Heise, managing director at RBC Capital Markets, is the 2007 chair of the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB), succeeding Patti O’Keefe, general manager of the Denver Marriott City Center. 2006 was Denver’s best year ever with the highest number of convention delegates coming to the city. There are currently more future meetings booked for Denver than at any time in the city’s history, with 163 confirmed citywide conventions using the Colorado Convention for 2007 and beyond, attracting 851,203 delegates for a total economic impact of $1.7 billion. Founded in 1909, the Bureau is a nonprofit trade association with more than 1,000 private business members that is charged with marketing Denver as a convention and leisure destination. Travel is recognized as metro Denver’s second largest industry, supporting 65,000 full-time jobs and generating $2.4 billion spending in 2005.

Cherrelyn Napue Appointed Assistant Vice President At Metro State
Cherrelyn Napue has been named Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and Alumni Association Executive Director at Metropolitan State College of Denver by President Stephen Jordan.
Metro State has nearly 60,000 alums living and working in the seven-county Denver-Metro area. Ninety-three percent of all graduates stay in Colorado. Metro State is a fully-accredited four-year institution serving 21,000 students in downtown Denver.
Napue has headed the College’s alumni office since January 2000, after graduating from Metro State College with a degree in nonprofit administration. Previously, she was the executive director of the Black United Fund of Colorado.
At Metro State she tripled the Alumni Association endowment within two years.
Under her direction the Alumni Department has created numerous partnerships to engage Metro State’s 60,000 alumni with their alma mater.

RTD Board Elects Officers For 2007
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors officers for 2007 were selected during their January board meeting. The 2007 officers are Chris Martinez, chairman, representing District B, William Christopher, first vice chairman, representing District J, O'Neill P. Quinlan, second vice chairman, representing District G, Barbara J. Brohl, secretary, representing District D, and Lee Kemp, treasurer, representing District I.

Centura Health Names Hébert As Senior VP
Centura Health, Colorado’s largest health care provider, has named Susan Hébert as senior vice president of Mission and Ministry. Hébert will begin her duties March 1. Hébert will be responsible for promoting the understanding and integration of the philosophy, values and mission of Centura Health. Hébert has nearly 25 years’ experience in health care, most recently serving as vice president of Mission Integration at St. Anthony Hospital/CHI in Pendleton, Oregon. Colorado's largest health care provider, the Centura Health family includes 12 hospitals, eight senior living residences, medical clinics, Flight For Life Colorado and home care and hospice services.

New Trustee At Buell Foundation
The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation announced the election of Reginald L. Washington, MD to the board of trustees. Washington is the medical director of Rocky Mountain Pediatric Cardiology (Pediatrix Medical Group) in Denver and is Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Washington served two terms on the Board of Directors of the National American Heart Association, currently serves on the National Science Advisory and Coordinating Committee for the AHA, and is also a member of the Healthcare Childhood Obesity Expert Panel of the AHA.

CTG Elects New President
Charles D. Packard, producer at the Aurora Fox Theatre, was voted the new President of the Colorado Theatre Guild (CTG) during their January board meeting. Packard is highly regarded in the theatre community both as a designer and producer. Under his leadership, the Aurora Fox transformed into a professional venue employing some of the region’s top actors and directors.

Gospel Shout Out Show A Smash
On Dec. 17 Sisters Enterprise hosted its 2nd Annual Back Home Gospel Shout Out Talent Show in Aurora. Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis opened up this year's show, featuring contestants Robert E. Burton, Jr., Diane Caldwell, Kimanice Maryland, Dacia McGee, Shannon Okeke, Annette Washington, Cierra Ruckard, Jon Shockness, and the Union Agenda Band. Dacia McGee took first place in the adult category and a $200 prize; Jon Shockness took first place in the teen category and a $100 prize. A presentaton of community awards were also made to outstanding citizens Harold Brown and Elder T.C. Young.
